Welcome to MamaBaer's Musings, a place where I will ramble on about life in general with a little of my own take on things. I'll be sure to add a lot of pics of the grankids because. . . well. . . I can.
I welcome opinions, comments and questions etc.
This is a work in progress. I think it will be fun.

Graduation Day!!!!!

Well. the day finally arrived. Chris is officially a graduate of Lakeview Centennial High School Class of 2009. Grandpa, Phil's dad came down from Hugo, Oklahoma for the special day.

I didn't cry too much. I brought plenty of tissue but didn't use very much. It was really over more quickly than I thought it would be. Granpa had to leave before the ceremony was over to get back to Roxton for his High School reunion. Here is Chris in the front row to the right of the teacher in the black robe.
This is after he found us through the great crowd.

Afterward, Cari and the boys joined us at Sciciliano's for lunch to celebrate. Then we came home and Phil and I took long naps. I was exhausted. Chris packed for his trip to Tennessee and wrote a few Thank you notes before going out to some friends graduation parties.
Now for the next stage. College. More to come.

Scholarship

On Saturday April 26, Christopher, Phil and I were guests at the Garland Police Awards Dinner where Chris was awarded the Lauren Meyers Memorial Scholarship. Lauren was a Lakeview Law Magnet student who was lost in a car accident in 2003. This scholarship in her memory is awarded each year to a law magnet student from LCHS who plans to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Chris with Ms Jordan and her husband, she was Chris's english teacher last year.
Mr David Lanman the law magnet advisor and teacher was unable to attend.
The award was presented by Garland Police Chief Mitch Bates.

These are Lauren's grandparents and parents who sat at the same
table with us at the dinner. I found out earlier that day that Johnny
works with my son in law Cory. Small world. It was a pleasure to meet them.

Prom

Lakeview's senior prom was held Saturday night April 18 at the Hilton Hotel in Rockwall. After working most of the day on his eagle project Chris got ready for the prom. Laura was his date. She is a friend whose brother is in his boy scout troop. She goes to a different school.

Home Stretch

Graduation is 5 weeks from today. A lot has happened since my last post.

I had started a few posts over the months and never finished them now they don't even seem newsworthy enough to post them. I will sum them by saying Chris finally finished his research project and passed all his classes.

April was a very busy month. Nichole, Caitlyn and Riley came for a visit Easter weekend. We got to meet Jeff, Nichole's new beau. He seems like a really nice guy. She is very happy, too. Caitlyn also brought her friend Cheyanne. Of course that was also the weekend that Chris was doing his Eagle Scout project so we didn't get to see much of them. Friday night we went out for Pizza at CiCi's and then came home for ice cream and cake to celebrate Caitlyn and Chris's birthdays a little early. Saturday they went shopping and seeing the sights while we were at the church doing Chris's project. They went to a concert at Billy Bob's Saturday night but Riley stayed home with us since he isn't old enough to go to BB's. He and Chris hung out playing video games. Easter morning I was up at the crack of dawn to go up to church and help with the sunrise service breakfast. The kids came to the service and then had to leave after breakfast. I only got one picture.
So Chris started his Eagle project that weekend and we ended up finishing the following weekend. 3 days before his 18th birthday. Talk about down to the wire. But it is done and I am so very proud of him. He kept telling me not to worry but you know how mother's are. The pictures tell the story.

Where has the time gone?

I haven't even posted a thing in over a month. Well, a lot has happened but really nothing newsworthy. Christmas and New Year have come and gone.
I had a very nice birthday on the 8th. First I slept in til about nine.( After dropping Chris off at school. It was my normal day off. I dinked around on the puter for a while. Decided to go see a movie. Saw "Marley and Me". I highly reccommend it. Bring tissues is all Ima gonna say. Anyway. I got a Txt msg while at the movies from a friend at work saying Happy B'day. After the movie I walked around the Harbour in Rockwall. Went to Stone Cold Creamery for a birthday ice cream. So much for my resolution to lose weight. But hey it's my birthday. I got the coffee lovers delight minus the almonds. It was coffee ice cream with caramel and Heath bar pieces mixed in. Yummy. A little later I treated myself to late lunch at Chik-fil-A. Went to Lowe's and bought new tile for the bathrooms ,again, (I didn't like the ones I bought last month, too dark, Still don't have them down yet. Maybe tomorrow) Picked Chris up from school. Worked in the yard a bit. It was 75 degrees that day. The Monday before we had 33-38 degrees and rain that iced on the trees. Oh Well , at least I had nice weather on my birthday.

I received three text messages and one phone call from friends saying Happy Birthday. My husband and son both forgot. I was hurt. Finally about 7pm, after I dropped a hint they realized it and took me out to dinner at the Olive Garden. It was good, I haven't eaten there in years. I had the Seafood Portofino. It was magnifico. ( I always go for the seafood.) Then for dessert I had Teramisu (not sure if that is how you spell it) it was really good. Came home and had a message from my sister Gretchen, so I called her back and talked for over an hour. It was great. So it was a good day overall.

The boys put a reminder in their cell phone calendars for next year so they don't forget. Friday when I got home from work Chris gave me a dozen beautiful pink roses he bought with his own money and a card that said "I'm sorry" How sweet. I know he felt really, really bad. I wish I had taken a picture of them before they wilted. They lasted well over a week though.

Today I got some really old pics from my brother. I am going to put a few up here. The profile pic is my grandparents, I think on their anniversary. The ones below are the family at Banna and Papa's 50th wedding anniversary. I am the bowlegged little blond in front. Next is a Summer family reunion around 1957. Again the little chubby blond in front.
Then my sister and cousin with a friend at the beach. and finally my Mom and Dad.

Well, I will have to keep up this blog a little better.
More later.

Christmas in 18 days.

Once again all my lofty plans of starting shopping early have gone by the wayside. I have less than 3 weeks left and I have not even started yet. Oh wait, I do have one that I picked up Saturday. Okay so I officially started on December 6. I am more stressed about getting the house ship shape before Sheridan comes down for the Baer family Christmas. I still don't know what day it is going to be. I just pray it is not the 14th. I need the extra week.

I bought the tile for the bathrooms. Decided to do vinyl so I can do it myself. Ceramic would have been too hard to do and to expensive. I also invested in a carpet cleaning machine. It is a must with this puppy housebreaking mess. She is doing better but she still forgets and doesn't know how to tell us she needs to go. I have been spot cleaning and it works to some extent as long as I catch it before it dries. I figure it will pay for itself in the savings of not having to have the professionals come out.

Well, it's been so long since I blogged. Marching season is over. We had Senior night, homecoming and I bawled at the end of the game. The last time to be in the stands for the Alma Mater. Oh sure I can go to the games next year but Chris won't be playing so it won't be the same. Here are some pics of the Mum I made for Chris's date, Imogene. Also some pics from homecoming.

I had Cari take some pics of Chris at Harry Meyers park in Rockwall. They came out really good. She is going to touch them up before I publish them. We ran out of light and battery power so we hope to try again soon before it gets too cold.

Well, I guess I am semi sorta caught up.

Hopefully I'll have a good report on Christmas shopping success on my next blog.

Peace, Hope, Joy and Love to all.

Bailey's New Do.

Just had to share. Bailey had her first trip to the groomers today. She looks so grown up. I was going to have her picture with Santa but he left at 4pm and she was not finished until 4:30. Maybe next weekend. We have been attending puppy classes. Today was our second class. We are working on sit, lay down and walking on a loose leash, nicely. She alway tries to bite her leash. We'll get there eventually.
